Ms. Manuel & Mrs. Fair A Peek into our Grade 1/2 Classroom! 

The Grade 1s and 2s have been studying linear measurement in Math the past couple of weeks. Students have experimented with different measuring tools such as string, snap cubes, straws, and centimeter rulers.  We have been practicing using math vocabulary  to describe an object’s size as well.  Students have also been practicing estimating measurements.

At home, have your child practice measuring objects from around the house! A math journal is a great resource for your child to communicate their thinking and practice using math terminology.

This year, we will be working with Mrs. Osadca’s Grade 6 class. Our class is very lucky and excited to have such a great group of Learning Buddies! Every other week, our classes get together to participate in some engaging reading, math and/or science activities.
This week, our learning buddies focus was reading. The Grade 6 class shared reading strategies with the Grade 1s and 2s and  then put them into action! Take a look below at some of our reading moments caught on camera!

In Visual Arts, we have been studying the different elements of design.  The past two weeks we have been looking at the elements of shape and form.  Students created their own ‘Picasso’ Portrait to demonstrate these elements; specifically geometric and organic shapes.  To finish off the portraits, students enjoyed colouring with vibrant pastel colours! Take a look below- they turned out fantastic!

We started our patterning unit in Math this week.  The Grade 1s and 2s have been exploring different types of patterns, including those that use colour, shape, size or numbers. Today, we created Pattern Snakes! Each snake illustrates two types of patterns: colour and line. Take a look below:
